DUNGEN is a band of folk-prog-jazz-psychedelic ... whatever ... from Sweden of all places. They sing in Swedish, they play in analog (old Marshals, tape-delays) and they freakin kick-ass. They put on one of the best shows I've ever seen at Johnny Brenda's last night. I didn't bring a flash, didn't bring a zoom. But I did manage to stand just to the side of the stage - and test out my D200 low-light concert skills. It took some time (during the warm-up band) to figure out my settings. And now I understand why people love the D300, D3, etc. I topped out my ISO at 1600, yet could easily have gone quite higher if it were available (on my camera). Ran the pics through NIK's Dfine software - and I'm pretty happy with 'em. More importantly - it was such a fucking GREAT show.

I was 23 years old, living on Academy street in Glassboro, when my pals Mark & Dawn discovered that they were, uh, on their way to way having a baby (whom they named Jamie) Now, decades later, I was able to take some pics of Jamie's graduation party (from Rowan, no less).

It finally happened - I've acquired my first digital SLR. Wow, did that completely blow my mind (mind-blowing, though cliche, was the phrase that kept popping up during my first hands-on experience).
My journey? Back in 2005, late summer, I bought my first SLR, my beloved black (with oh so cool brassing) OM-1. Slowly, ever so slowly, I got into it. By 2007, I was on a roll, shooting at least two or three rolls a month, all with the same 50mm 1.4 lens. All manual focus, all pure & simple.
Well - suddenly, I'm no longer in 1974.
I'm rolling with a D200, a new Nikkor nifty fifty f/1.8D. Blasted into the future - indeed.
Did I say mind-blowing? My God - it's freaking me out.
More, of course, to come ...
